DeSoto Falls State Park, Georgia

DeSoto Falls is a rather quaint State Park with only the minimum facilities (in fact, they have a "self pay" both for the entrance fee). There are several camping spots for overnight staying, but the main attraction are the waterfalls. Below are some of my pictures of the Upper DeSoto Falls -- all of which were taken with a Minolta Dimage 7 digital camera.

Full view of the Upper DeSoto Falls.

Closer up view, but still containing the majority of the Upper DeSoto Falls.

Another full shot of the falls, but from a wider view.

This shot is the "middle" section of the Upper DeSoto Falls.

Another "creative" shot focusing on middle section of the falls.

A close up on the middle section of the falls. Once again, going for a creative affect.

A close up side view of the middle section of the falls for artistic affect.

I took a picture of the stream next to the hiking trail on the way back from the falls (it was getting dark by then). Decided to try "bulb exposure" feature of the camera.

Same stream (and location) as above, bulb exposure, zoomed in a little more -- the time photo altered Paint Shop Pro to bring out the contrast, adjust the colors, and give the whitewater an electric flare. Anyway, I liked the results -- especially since the original photo was very dark.

Directions to DeSoto Falls State Park From Atlanta:

Scenic Route: Take GA 400 North until it ends and becomes US 19 and continue until just about 5 miles north (about) of Turner's Corner (Junction of US 19 and US 129) located on the left. Dahlonega has some really nice overlook views of the southern Appellations, certainly worth pulling over to take pictures.

Fastest Route: Take I-85 North to I-985. Take Exit 24 in Gainesville (US Hwy 129). Take US 129 to Turner's Corner (Junction of US 19 and US 129), continue north on US 19/129 another 5 miles (will be on the left). This route has its far shares of views once you get above Cleveland.

The park is small and the entrance is easy to miss -- if you get to Vogel State park, you've gone too far. You're getting close once you pass the "Entering Chattahoochee National Forest" sign.
